I have seven computers in my room. Four desktops, three laptops. I only use one of them, the laptop I'm using right now, that I got for my birthday. What I tend to do, is use a computer for three or four years until it gets so slow I cant stand in anymore, and then get a new one. Until recently, I used to use a desktop and a laptop at the same time, which is why so many. And why do I still have them all? Well, I don't know how you get rid of that kind of thing. You can't just throw them in the bin, can you? I guess I could take them to the dump, but I'm not even sure where the dump is.

In addition to the seven computers, I also have two monitors, four keyboards, several mouses, and in indeterminate number of power cables etc. If I did get rid of it, I'd have a hell of a lot more room in my room. I should get rid of it. But then there's the problem of the hard drives. It's not like I have anything incriminating on there or anything, but I have at various times saves things like passwords, pin numbers, and embarrassing fanfics to the hard drives, and I know that a determined person could retrieve these. They probably wouldn't, and I could always just change my passwords etc, but I guess I'm paranoid or something.

Anyway, keeping them can be a good thing. Today, just out of interest, I decided to fire them up and take a look at the stuff I've got on there. I was actually looking for some old City Drive tracks I know I used to have, not the demo tracks from the album, whole other songs. I couldn't find them, which was a little disappointing. But I did find Elevated, that short movie with David Hewlett that I thought I'd lost. And, and I found the Frog Chronicles.

These were a series of fanfics that used to be hosted on the Lost Cave back in I don't even know when. They were what made me love the Frog Brothers. And they were the first place I saw anything about the idea of Alan becoming a half vampire. This was way before Reign of Frogs or either of the sequels, and it was a concept I fell instantly in love with. Because after all, what would be the absolute worst thing that you could do to a vampire hunter?

The series has been long since taken down, I don't know why, and I thought I'd never be able to read it again, but there it is on the hard drive of my first ever computer. I'm missing a few stories, but it'll do.

I also found a few of my old Lost Boys fics. I don't actually remember writing them, and the folder was last modified back on May 2001, so I'm betting they're pretty awful. I'm almost scared to take a look.

Oh no!

Just discovered via my flist that The City Drive split up last month. That's a shame! Now I need to listen to their music and sulk!

I'm sure Smartpunk used to charge a fortune for international shipping, like when I ordered Always Moving Never Stopping by The City Drive, the CD was around $10 and they charged me another $17 for shipping. Now it's gone down to something more normal. Cool.

I'm shopping online (at Smartpunk, which is why I noticed) but the card I got with my HSBC account is a Maestro, which isn't listed as a card type on American sites, probably on Canadian ones too. Which sucks. So I'll have to keep my Co-op (Visa) one for stuff like that. I was going to keep it anyway, but I sort of envisioned just leaving it there dormant, but I can't not shop on my favourite sites, can I? Well, I could be really grown up and get a credit card, I suppose...

For anyone who cares, you can see The City Drive's video it Defeated here. It's...interesting.

I'm considering applying to do a creative writing course at the university. It's a part time university course though, which means that if I stick at it for 6 years I could end up with a degree. It also means it costs £500 for one year. Which is kind of a lot. looks like it might be good though, and its only a ouple of hours a week, so I might go for it. I might not get accepted anyway though, so I guess I'll see what happens.

Also, I can't believe Steve Irwin died! :-(

Okay, so no one is ever going to give me a prize for my awesome spelling ability, and my mastery of grammar it's perfect either, but do I really need to do a basic skills course to improve my literacy? According to my new deal adviser I do. And she reached this conclusion because I wasn't sure how to spell 'voluntary'. I just had to write down what I am doing at the school, and I made the mistake of admitting I wasn't sure how to spell the word. It's just one of those evil words that I can't do. The number of them has declined dramatically over the past few years, but there are still a few that no matter how many times I write it I just can't get it right. So what?

I informed her that I don't need to do basic skills literacy because I did a test at the Skills Initiatives place (I've got to go back there next month *shudder*) and they said I passed easily, plus I've got an A level in English and a university degree, but she insists that I should do it. Luckily, she also admits that there is no way she can force me. Anyway, basing it on the questions in the test to see if I needed it, there is no way it would help with spelling anyway, at least not with my spelling problems, if it would with any. I just feel a little insulted.

Anyway, veering off in a totally different direction, my minor Big Wolf On Campus obsession has led me to the website of The City Drive. They're a band with Danny Smith (aka Merton from BWOC) in. He sings, plays guitar and keyboard, and they are really good, in an addictive punk/pop/rock kind of way (which is of course the best way, or up there with them, anyway!). You can download songs on their website, I particularly recommend Bring Me Everything, but the other three are great too. I've been sending everyone I know there to get them, so anyone who reads this, go! I really can't wait for their album!
