I've been pratting about for about an hour now with my Apple ID. I think I have it sorted, but I came so close to throwing my laptop out the window! Well, not really. These things are expensive!

Yesterday, Facebook sent me a notification that someone had tried to log into my account from Ukraine. Now, as I've never been there, I was pretty sure it wasn't me. As a precaution, they had me change my password. All was good. Then, a friend mentioned that they may have gotten the Facebook password via my email (don't know how) and that I should change that password too. Trouble is, I'm one of those idiots that uses the same password for everything, or at least some variation of it - you just can't keep track of which one is which if they are all different. So I though I'd better change everything, starting with Paypal and Apple.

Paypal was no problem. Apple, however, I made the mistake of setting it up so that is someone logs in from a new device, I get a notification to my phone with a verification code, and I have to type the verification code to the new device before it lets me in. Sounds good, right? In theory.

What actually happened was that the instant I turned on my mac, I got notifications from FaceTime, iMessage, iTunes, app store, and probably a bunch of other things. I put in the password, nothing happened on my phone. The next thing popped up and I put the password in that. Then three notifications came through on my phone, all with different codes and I didn't know which one was for which app.

The result was a pretty predictable mess in which the account got locked out. I had to go to a website, which opened a notification on my phone to update the password for the second time, then go back on the mac and do each one slowly, wait for the notification, and then set it up. It seems to have worked now, but my email isn't working on the mac now. So I've been messing about with that, putting the password in again, and stuff. Finally, I deleted the account and set it up again, and it's been sitting there for 10 minutes loading.

So that's been my evening.

Seriously, the sooner we start to use biometrics for everything the better!

I need a Daredevil icon. I also need some decent photo editing software to allow me to make one. The problem with switching from PC to Mac is that I can't use the one I had before, and I have no idea what is good. There are some in the app store, I'll have to check them out.

Dammit. I've done it again, gone and gotten obsessed with a new TV show. So I've spent most of the day reading fanfic, pressing refresh on the fic meme and generally building up the obsession. I've still only watched the first three episodes. I'm trying to take it slow and savour them, but that's not going to last too much longer. It's only because the weather was so nice today that I've been sitting in the garden that I haven't watched the rest of them already.

The fic in the fandom is so damn good too. Some of it seriously puts me to shame. It makes for seriously addictive reading. I think my favourite character is going to be Foggy, which doesn't bode well for him because I do love to torture my favorites in fanfic horrors...

I'd better watch the full series before I write anything else though... she says as she scours the meme for more plot bunnies...

I have found my Paintshop Pro disk! Finally. It wasn't even that lost, it was just on my desk, made invisible by the mess.

Apparently, Windows7 says you're an administrator when you're not. The primary user is just a normal user with some administrator privilidges, and although I'm allowed to install every thing else, Paintshop Pro isn't allowed (wtf?) so I then ad to spend about half an hour finding out how to log in as the real administrator, which involved all kinds of pointless effort. And then VLC was refusing to play, forcing me to make screencaps through Windows Media player, which, to my amazement, is no longer a major pain in the arse. So that's good.

So anyway, I'm finally able to make icons again. Yay! I made a couple, but I'll probably make a bunch more later when I've (hopefully!) done some writing.

I have seven computers in my room. Four desktops, three laptops. I only use one of them, the laptop I'm using right now, that I got for my birthday. What I tend to do, is use a computer for three or four years until it gets so slow I cant stand in anymore, and then get a new one. Until recently, I used to use a desktop and a laptop at the same time, which is why so many. And why do I still have them all? Well, I don't know how you get rid of that kind of thing. You can't just throw them in the bin, can you? I guess I could take them to the dump, but I'm not even sure where the dump is.

In addition to the seven computers, I also have two monitors, four keyboards, several mouses, and in indeterminate number of power cables etc. If I did get rid of it, I'd have a hell of a lot more room in my room. I should get rid of it. But then there's the problem of the hard drives. It's not like I have anything incriminating on there or anything, but I have at various times saves things like passwords, pin numbers, and embarrassing fanfics to the hard drives, and I know that a determined person could retrieve these. They probably wouldn't, and I could always just change my passwords etc, but I guess I'm paranoid or something.

Anyway, keeping them can be a good thing. Today, just out of interest, I decided to fire them up and take a look at the stuff I've got on there. I was actually looking for some old City Drive tracks I know I used to have, not the demo tracks from the album, whole other songs. I couldn't find them, which was a little disappointing. But I did find Elevated, that short movie with David Hewlett that I thought I'd lost. And, and I found the Frog Chronicles.

These were a series of fanfics that used to be hosted on the Lost Cave back in I don't even know when. They were what made me love the Frog Brothers. And they were the first place I saw anything about the idea of Alan becoming a half vampire. This was way before Reign of Frogs or either of the sequels, and it was a concept I fell instantly in love with. Because after all, what would be the absolute worst thing that you could do to a vampire hunter?

The series has been long since taken down, I don't know why, and I thought I'd never be able to read it again, but there it is on the hard drive of my first ever computer. I'm missing a few stories, but it'll do.

I also found a few of my old Lost Boys fics. I don't actually remember writing them, and the folder was last modified back on May 2001, so I'm betting they're pretty awful. I'm almost scared to take a look.

I've had a very successful baking day so far. My work is trying to raise money for a children's hospice in the city centre, so as part of that we're doing various activities. Sponsored walks, raffles, and next week a bake sale. We're all bringing in something and selling it in the banking hall. I've made my favourite oatmeal cookies and a carrot cake. I doubles the batch of cookies, but it somehow seems to have made three times as many as normal, and the carrot cake looks good, though I haven't cut it open yet. With cakes, especially ones that are a bit tricky to make, I always have this paranoia they they won't be cooked in the middle when you cut it. I gave it a few stabs with a knife though and it seems okay. My task for tomorrow will be to put the frosting on.

Now, I'm going to write some fanfic. If I can get my computer to start behaving itself, that is. It keeps doing this thing where it insists it's got no memory left and starts closing down programs at random. It has plenty of memory, but just to be safe, I'm writing all my files to disk and deleting the things I don't use much. I really need an external hard drive. Or a new computer. When I put it on and it started playing up again, I was half tempted to just get in the car and go to PC world this afternoon for one. But I'll give it a brief reprieve and see how it behaves.

Sometimes, when I shut down firefox, it comes up with an error saying that the program has closed unexpectedly and that it's sesrching for a solution. It's a bit annoying, but I also kinds like it. It makes it seem like the program had a life of it's own and when you shut it down, it's like, "what the hell? That was unexpected, I better find a solution," and that's really funny. Poor thing. No, firefox, I closed you down because I need to go to bed. Sorry, I'll see you tomorrow.

I'm so getting withdrawal symptoms over Supernatural! I need new episodes! I'm so glad it's on tonight, even if I have already seen it, it might take the edge off a little. But until September I'm going to have to rely on fanfic and the comic, and I wasn't over impressed with the comic since I don't really like John.

So, withdrawal hitting me hard, I started looking to my other favourite program, Atlantis. I mean, I saw the season 3 finale ages ago, it's got to be nearly time for season four, right? Nope. In fact season 3 hasn't even finished showing in the US yet, so fuck knows when 4's gonna start.

Also, my blog looks wrong on my new computer becuause the pictures at the side get obliterated by the writing, and why can't I download msn messenger?

Hello world. I am currently blogging on my brand new laptop. Ah the awesomeness! I've been wanting to get one for ages, it's going to be such a relief not to have to cross my fingers and hope the screen's going to be readable every time I switch it on. And there's less danger of fatal electric shocks now, since this one doesn't have a power lead that's been bitten in two by my dog and fixed back together again somewhat dangerously.

First order of business, move all my files and stuff across, then get downloading VLC and Open Office, and I'm away! Oh, and work out what on earth I'm supposed to do with the new version of Internet Explorer it's got, because it looks kinda scary and I think it's going to get on my nerves. Maybe I should find another browser too.

I made the stupid mistake last night of staying up until half four. Not doing anything in particular, just reading fanfic and messing around online. As a result, I'm completely exhausted this morning afternoon.

I have finally watched ReGenesis, and I watched it on the TV. Oh yes, the new TV has arrived. Actually it arrived on Wednesday, but this is the first time I've had chance to play with it. I had to steal the lead from my mum's computer to hook my laptop up to it, and play the sound through my speakers because I don't have any way of playing that through the TV yet, but it worked. Which is so freaking awesome! No more having to watch stuff on my little crappy laptop screen that you can't even see from most angles. No more crossing my fingers every time I switch it on in case it's decided the screen doesn't want to work today. Now I just need to get some leads so I can watch stuff while my mum's on the computer, and I'm away.

I just wish the old TV had broken before Supernatural ended!

So I got up early this morning and set the Supernatural season finale downloading, then I resisted the urge to read spoilers or anything that might contain spoilers all morning, went off to work leaving the download going and was completely unable to concentrate on the story I was writing (yeah, I know work is for working not writing fanfic, but what the hell) and got a taxi home so I would see it that little bit sooner. Then I get back, try to watch it, and it's something else. I don't know what, some other show! And it won't even play in VLC, so it made me download some other program to watch it, which didn't have a picture for some reason and it's some other show! So now I'm downloading it again, and it's going really really slowly. And this sucks so much.

I have got rid of the spyware! At least, I think I have. I can get into my e-mail now, at least. That was so frustrating! And now, my mum has banned everyone from using 'her' computer because she doesn't want it to get messed up. Well, fair enough I guess. Except that that one's supposed to be everyone's computer. And it's got a nice shiny new DVD writer on it. So I'm happy enough to use mine for the internet, but I'm not going to not use 'hers' at all. And if mine bodges up for some reason (it is 5 years old, and it's started going really slowly) I'm going to use the other one. (Or else insist she buys me a new one, hehehe!)

Anyway, I'm going to celebrate by watching Traders, I have still got one I haven't seen yet. Oh, and I watched Where The Heart Is last night. And it was good. I thought (based mostly on the title) that it would be really awful, so I was pleasantly surprised. The ending was a bit too happy for my tastes though!

I've got some kind of spyware thing on my computer that is changing my homepage to this advert with millions of popups, and it goes to it whenever I log into my e-mail too. I've got anti-spyware programs, antivirus programs and a firewall, but I can't seem to get rid. It's very annoying. I want to check my e-mail!

I went to check it at 1 this morning, meaning to do that then go to bed. I've been messing about with it ever since!

Is there anyone out there who had any ideas? Because I'm completely lost!

I am loving this internet in my room thing. Too bad I need to get up tomorrow, or I'd be on all night. Which wouldn't be that different to normal, to be fair. But it's a change of location. I hope it doesn't all go wrong though. It's already stopped working twice tonight. Think it's sorted now though.

Wondering around town today, I found both Boa vs Python and Where the Heart Is on DVD, didn't get either though. No way I'm spending £20 on Boa vs Python, but I think I might get Where The Heart Is tomorrow. It's only a tenner, and I need a David Hewlett fix.

I have the internet in my room! I am in my room, on the internet. How cool is that? No more fighting with my mum over it, or having to stay up till 2 in the morning just to check my e-mail.

The course wasn't that bad. I have no idea how useful it's going to be, but it at least looks like it will be tolerable for two weeks. Everyone seems nice enough, and they all thing the team building stuff is a waste of time too. So that's got to be a good thing. Although if they did that thing like on Traders where everyone goes paintballing as a team building thing, that would have been cool. Never mind though! :)

And another thing that's pretty good is they repay our busfare for getting there and back, and give us tokens for free tea and coffee, and a free lunch. Although it's not so good that they seem to think tuna counts as vegetarian. So I don't get much variety, but hey, it's free!

Apparently our computer is messed up. My mum told me what she could remember about what the bloke who was looking at it told her, but she dodn't know what he was on about, so it makes no sense! But it's something about something inside that has been warped by too much head and could break at any time. Which for some reason meant that he couldn't install XP on it, and then couldn't get ME to work either. So he gave it back to my mum, suggesting another one she could buy for £400. £400 is a bit more than she was wanting to pay to get the computers networked! So she messed about with it for a while and got ME to work, and now she is trying to decide whether to buy this other computer or keep this one. I am very doubtful that we will end up getting them networked at all now. Still a chance, I guess, but my mum is very paranoid about her computer! And I really doubt she will want to fork out £400 for a new one! So I guess I will just hve to wait and see what she does. And in the meantime, not only do we have hardly any programs installed, but all the files from the C drive are stored on this bloke's other computer.

Anyway, neeeed sleeeeep. Too tired to think

btw, sorry for any spelling errors, no programs are installed to check it!

I actually tidied my room. My room is actually tidy. Okay, not if you go and look around, but on the surface at least it looks okay. It took me two films time to do it (Biodome and Free Enterprise). I was in the mood for films instead of my usual tidying up choice of Forever Knight. Probably a good thing, I don't want to end up associating Forever Knight with tidying up! That would suck.

We are definitely getting the computers networked. A friend of my mum's is going to do it for us on Wednesday. So hopefully, by Wednesday night I will be able to go online in my room. Which means I will probably never leave my room again! Of course, all this means my mum is freaking out worrying in case something goes wrong. And since the guy is taking the computer to do something before he networks them, there's a chance I won't be able to get online on Sunday night or Monday. Which sucks. But, my mum being the internet addict that she is, she will find a way. I think she wants to borrow one of my computers. Which means she'll install a load of crap on it that I'll have to spend hours finding and uninstalling.

Off to see Star Wars tomorrow, I think. I really hope it's good. I've been avoiding spoilers (sort of, but it's not like I don't know how it's going to end!) but I've heard good and bad things. Well, I guess I'll see.

Someone is spamming my e-mail! Every time I log in, I've got about 300 new messages, all saying nothing. And with an attachment with a virus. It's very annoying. I've just been deleting them, but just now I nearly deleted an e-mail I wanted, so if anyone has sent me mail and I don't reply, it'll be because I've accidentally deleted it! Sorry! I think I only got the junk though.

A rant about annoying people )

Anyway, I got lots of my Traders story written earlier today. I’m a bit worried that it’s crap though. I just can’t get Grant quite right. I think I’m going to have to go over it a couple of million times, but it should be finished pretty soon. Maybe. Been a while since I finished a fic. Well, I did finish a short Atlantis PWP the other night, but I doubt I’ll post that.

This morning I mentioned to my mum that I'd like to learn more Spanish. She told me they probably have courses at the adult education centre not far from here. So she went on the internet, looked it up, found one that only started a few weeks ago that had a lesson tonight, and made me ring them about it. I say 'made' me because I really don't like ringing people up and it takes a lot of convincing.

They said they didn't know if it was on tonight because the teacher was ill and they didn't know if they'd be able to get a replacement, so they took my number, rang me back this afternoon and they are. So I can go.

So now I don't know whether I want to. I mean, I do *want* to, but what if I hate it? What if it's like school? What if I can't find the place? What if I don't recognise someone next week and they get offended. Shit shit shit! See, this is why I never do anything.

I'm going to have to, though, or my mum will never shut up about it.
*cowers in the corner*

Watched Traders today (once the evil Karoo was working properly to let me download!). Poor Grant! Poor poor Grant! That's 3 eps in a row he's had a crap time. I want to hug him.
*Hugs Grant before retreating back to the corner*

Aaaagh! Stupid internet isn't working again! Karoo wants me to suffer, doesn't it? It's doing it on purpose. Only instead of refusing to work altogether, it's taunting me by letting me online to look at websites, rant in my journal etc etc, but it won't let me download anything. I'm trying to download Traders But it's refusing! It just won't connect! It's doing it just to get to me, I know it is! Damn, I wish we could get another ISP. Karoo just isn't any good. Isn't there some sort of law against companies having a monopoly?
Stupid crappy piece of crap! It's great when it works, better than some other ones, anyway, but I can't stand unreliable internet connections! If I needed another reason to move out of Hull, this is it. They make it practically impossible for you to use anyone else, and that means they can suck as badly as they want without losing customers! Hate them, hate them, hate them!
