I have seven computers in my room. Four desktops, three laptops. I only use one of them, the laptop I'm using right now, that I got for my birthday. What I tend to do, is use a computer for three or four years until it gets so slow I cant stand in anymore, and then get a new one. Until recently, I used to use a desktop and a laptop at the same time, which is why so many. And why do I still have them all? Well, I don't know how you get rid of that kind of thing. You can't just throw them in the bin, can you? I guess I could take them to the dump, but I'm not even sure where the dump is.

In addition to the seven computers, I also have two monitors, four keyboards, several mouses, and in indeterminate number of power cables etc. If I did get rid of it, I'd have a hell of a lot more room in my room. I should get rid of it. But then there's the problem of the hard drives. It's not like I have anything incriminating on there or anything, but I have at various times saves things like passwords, pin numbers, and embarrassing fanfics to the hard drives, and I know that a determined person could retrieve these. They probably wouldn't, and I could always just change my passwords etc, but I guess I'm paranoid or something.

Anyway, keeping them can be a good thing. Today, just out of interest, I decided to fire them up and take a look at the stuff I've got on there. I was actually looking for some old City Drive tracks I know I used to have, not the demo tracks from the album, whole other songs. I couldn't find them, which was a little disappointing. But I did find Elevated, that short movie with David Hewlett that I thought I'd lost. And, and I found the Frog Chronicles.

These were a series of fanfics that used to be hosted on the Lost Cave back in I don't even know when. They were what made me love the Frog Brothers. And they were the first place I saw anything about the idea of Alan becoming a half vampire. This was way before Reign of Frogs or either of the sequels, and it was a concept I fell instantly in love with. Because after all, what would be the absolute worst thing that you could do to a vampire hunter?

The series has been long since taken down, I don't know why, and I thought I'd never be able to read it again, but there it is on the hard drive of my first ever computer. I'm missing a few stories, but it'll do.

I also found a few of my old Lost Boys fics. I don't actually remember writing them, and the folder was last modified back on May 2001, so I'm betting they're pretty awful. I'm almost scared to take a look.

How come I appear to be the last person in the universe to know that a third season of Being Human is starting soon? That's two people today who have mentioned it to me. Where do they get their information from? And more importantly, WHEN is it starting? The BBC's official site is being secretive about it. Soon, apparently. But when? Soon like tomorrow? Or in two months?

What else is starting soon? Glee, on the 10th apparently. And a while ago I was irritated to learn that season 2 of Caprica wouldn't be making an appearance in the UK until early 2011, which is now.

We should get the second half of the current season of Stargate Universe soon-ish, but that actually hasn't started in the US yet. That's a series that has improved drastically this season, but it still doesn't convince me that it's a worthy successor to the other series. It has absolutely no humour in it, and a Stargate series should have humour. Every time things seem to be going well, they kill someone off and make everyone depressed again. But it's infinitely better than it was and I no longer resent the 42 minutes a week I spend watching it. Which is why it's totally typical that they've now decided to cancel it. I do miss Atlantis though still. I miss Rodney McKay. I heard a rumour he's going to be in one of the new episodes.

Talking of, I recently googled David Hewlett, just because I was bored, and I found out that he was in Splice. That's a film I kind of wanted to see. That is, it looks awful, but I knew it was directed by Vincenzo Natali, so I thought it was worth a look. Knowing that, I should have known David Hewlett would be in it really, since he's in pretty much everything Vincenzo Natali has ever done. I doubt it's a large part though. Maybe I'll LoveFilm it rather than just buying the DVD without knowing what to expect. Unless it's like really cheap or something.

So, what other new series do I have to look forward to in 2011? I really need to get into some new shows, mine all seem to by dying out...

I suppose the new series of Dan For Mayor and Hiccups will be along shortly. Season 1 of DfM comes out on DVD on the 18th. I'm SO getting that. And Hiccups too, on the 11th.

I have reached the first two episodes of Jpod with Ryan Robbins in. His character reminds me a bit of Grant Jansky (from Traders - if you haven't seen it, do so now!). Well, if he was a bit more mad with power. Grant's kinda mad without power, and therefore much nicer. That, and Alistair Parish is addicted to that orange powdery astronaut stuff, whatever it is, and Grant's hooked on chocolate, but they both have it all over their fingers... And they both have that eccentric genius thing going on. Can't see Alistair climbing a tree though.

Anyway, that is my completely random post for the night. And now I need to sleep.

A Dog's Breakfast finally arrived a few days ago. It is so awesome. And even my mum liked it, which is really saying something.
prepare4trouble: (Default)
A Dog's Breakfast has shipped. Again. Fingers crossed, this time I might actually receive it.

Over a month after it shipped, I still haven't received my copy of A Dog's Breakfast. So I e-mailed Amazon to see what ws going on. They just wrote back saying it seems to have been lost in transit. So they're sending me another one, which should get here by about half way through November. Sigh. Still, at least they're not saying tough luck or anything.

Weather

Don't you just love weather?

I had been planning on going in town and getting all the stuff I need for my holiday and haven't got yet. Then I was woken up by the sound of rain pounding off my window, and I reconsidered. I'll probably just pay more and get stuff at the airport or something. Unless it eases off later.

Must be pretty bad though, because my dad has just rang to say he's heading home, school is closing (he's a teacher). Apparently his is the last one in the city to decide to, too. Lucky kids.

To cheer myself up, I pre-ordered A Dog's Breakfast. Well, I had to...
prepare4trouble: (hanging)
A Dog's Breakfast comes out to buy in September! How cool it that?! I can't decide whether to pre-order it now, or wait and see if it's going to be coming out in region 2 anytime soon first. But it probably won't be, so I guess I'll just pre-order it.

Talking of A Dog's Breakfast, check out this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NG1vWJyT0Rc for David Hewlett introducing the movie at Glastonbury. Sort of.

I spent most of yesterday making cakes. The one I made for my dad's friend is pretty huge, so I hope there are a lot of people going to his party! My mum's is more normal sized and not yet decorated because I didn't have time. I guess I'll do that later today.

I start my new job on Tuesday, which is kinda exciting but I'm really nervous. I got my hair cut and re-dyed so I look less of a wreck, and I got my new glasses on Friday, which are sort of black with plastic frames (think 10th Doctor, but that wasn't the intention, I promise!) so that, combined with my nearly black hair makes me look really emo at the moment!

Anyway, today is my mum's birthday, and I have a cake to decorate and a present to wrap, so I'd better get on with that.

Words seriously cannot express how badly I want to see A Dog's Breakfast. Seriously, how amazing does it look?!

Also, Gateworld says Samantha Carter is going to be in season 4 of Atlantis, either as a recurring guest star or a main character. Hmm, I hope this doesn't cue too many icky McKay/Carter stories, but other than that it's pretty cool news.

I have got rid of the spyware! At least, I think I have. I can get into my e-mail now, at least. That was so frustrating! And now, my mum has banned everyone from using 'her' computer because she doesn't want it to get messed up. Well, fair enough I guess. Except that that one's supposed to be everyone's computer. And it's got a nice shiny new DVD writer on it. So I'm happy enough to use mine for the internet, but I'm not going to not use 'hers' at all. And if mine bodges up for some reason (it is 5 years old, and it's started going really slowly) I'm going to use the other one. (Or else insist she buys me a new one, hehehe!)

Anyway, I'm going to celebrate by watching Traders, I have still got one I haven't seen yet. Oh, and I watched Where The Heart Is last night. And it was good. I thought (based mostly on the title) that it would be really awful, so I was pleasantly surprised. The ending was a bit too happy for my tastes though!

I am loving this internet in my room thing. Too bad I need to get up tomorrow, or I'd be on all night. Which wouldn't be that different to normal, to be fair. But it's a change of location. I hope it doesn't all go wrong though. It's already stopped working twice tonight. Think it's sorted now though.

Wondering around town today, I found both Boa vs Python and Where the Heart Is on DVD, didn't get either though. No way I'm spending £20 on Boa vs Python, but I think I might get Where The Heart Is tomorrow. It's only a tenner, and I need a David Hewlett fix.

Darklight

prepare4trouble: (Default)
Darklight is the worst best worst film I have ever seen. I don't know what whoever wrote it was thinking, but until now I have never fully appreciated the meaning of "so bad it's good". I mean, parts of it are okay, but on the whole it's awful. Really, truly, completely awful. But the awfulness is so funny! I watched it with my sister and my dad, which to be fair isn't unlike watching MST3K, and towards the end we were laughing so hard I had tears running down my face. So yeah, terrible, but so bad it's good. I am definitely going to be watching it again!

Now, just gotta make a few corrections and Traders fic in a few mins.

Woohoo! Darklight is going to be on! Thank you Sky Movies!

It's on loads of times too! So I'll definately get to see it at least one of them.

list of all the times this month and next, just so I don't forget )

Yay! Shirtless!David Hewlett!

*is happy*

I heard the film is pretty awful though, but never mind! :-D

The District

I watched the episode of the District with David Hewlett in today. He's only in it for a couple of minutes, (could have done with having him in for the whole ep) and his character is a right creep. Yet for some reason I still liked him. Well, not *liked* but... Oh I don't know.

*Is confused*

Right, I am going to do some of the stuff I didn't do yesterday.

I think I'm allergic to orange juice. Or maybe not allergic, but it doesn't agree with me. Every time I drink the stuff, I get a headache. Every single time. That can't be a coincidence, can it? Damn. I hope it is a coincidence, because I like orange juice. It's my favourite juice.

I mustn’t forget the watch the District tomorrow, I think it's the ep with David Hewlett in.

Happy!

Friday, 18 March 2005 18:40
prepare4trouble: (edgar)
I have had a great day today! It's weird, I got about way too little sleep last night, got up the instant the alarm went off and spent half the day tidying my room (which now actually looks like a room, as opposed to a rubbish tip). I am really tired, to the point where I fell asleep this afternoon, and I never sleep during the day, I haven't done anything especially great, I have had a totally average day. Even a slightly less good than average day, but I'm happy. What's with that?

I've got a few theories. First, it's all warm and sunny. I even saw someone outside in shorts earlier (but I don't think it's anywhere near that warm myself!) and for some reason sun makes you happy. There's probably some sort of scientific explanation for that, I think I’ll find out, but for now I'll just think it's because there's something great about going outside in jeans and a t-shirt and not being cold when last week you were shivering through your thickest coat. I so want to live somewhere with better weather!

Then, there's the fact that I had a good dream last night. I've probably got [livejournal.com profile] lil_banik_slave to thank for that, because she put the idea of having a dream about David Hewlett in my mind. So I did! Well, okay, so it was a dream about Grant Jansky, and for some reason we were running around Scarborough (no idea why there!) looking for something he'd lost. I didn't know what it was, and I didn't want to ask in case he decided I was useless and left, so... odd dream. But cool, in a way! :-D

And finally, I'd left the computer downloading another of [livejournal.com profile] perian's Traders episodes last night, so I knew I had that to watch, and when I did watch it, it was great! I just love eps where Grant is important to the plot in some way, instead of just being there while it's happening.

So, sun + good dream + new Traders ep = happy Catherine. I hope that all happens together again soon!

It probably didn't hurt that no one else was in all day, either.

Traders

Tuesday, 8 March 2005 01:07
prepare4trouble: (Default)
Okay, i feel the need to ramble on about Traders. Again. I've just seen the first ep of series 3 (thank you [livejournal.com profile] perian!) and since I don't know anyone remotely interested in hearing me go on and on, here's the best place for it.

If you do want to read it... )

Okay, I've lost track of what I'm doing now. I'm exhausted and about to fall asleep, so I guess I'd best go to bed before I do. I will probably ramble more tomorrow about the things I forgot.

Oh, something I thought was pretty funny. I was looking at the Traders DVD on Amazon, and you know that thing they do where it says "Customers who bought this also bought..." two of the three things there are Nothing and Treed Murray! I guess all the David Hewlett fans have been buying everything he has ever been in. Cool. Maybe if they keep at it, enough Traders DVDs will be sold to justify them bringing out the second season. Probably not though, but you never know.

They arrived!

Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:13
prepare4trouble: (Default)
The DVDs got here! This is soooo cool. They were sent (here time) Monday evening and arrived Wednesday morning. Less than 48 hours to get here. True, more than 48 hours before they were dispatched, but I can hardly complain. Well, I guess I know what I'm going to be watching tonight. A Due South fest!!

Job centre people say someone from that women’s centre thing will ring me. So that should be interesting. Maybe.

So, Meobius was on last night. A cool ep. Made so much better by the fact that McKay was in it. In another fantastic T-shirt. I don't generally dl SG1, but I might have to get that one. He's only in it for a few minutes though, but he was (of course) great. I liked the lack of Jack/Sam shippyness in the ep too. It was sooo boring last week. This week it was completely gone. Mostly because the real Jack and Sam were only in it for a few minutes. I wouldn’t' be surprised if they brought it back majorly next week, since it looks like SG1 ended up living out their lives in 3000BC, and bodging the future up in the process. So they'll probably have them get married or something equally revolting. But then none of it will have happened in the end, but that won't mean we won't have to watch it. Of course, this is all a total guess.

Traders

prepare4trouble: (Default)
Oh my god, Traders rules!!

I got the DVDs a few days ago. The series one box set. 13 episodes, 11 of which have David Hewlett in them. Now obviously I'm going to say I love it, it's got David Hewlett in it, so my judgement is kinda clouded. But I'm fairly sure I'm right that it rules. David Hewlett's character, Grant Jansky, is a fairly minor character compared to the rest, but he is probably the best one. I wasn't actually bored when I was watching the scenes without him, the other characters are all quite interesting too (just not David, you know?), but I was definitely waiting for his next scene.

There are eleven names on the credits as it comes on, David is the 9th. That kind of implies he would be in it a lot less than he actually is. For a supporting character, he sure acts like one of the stars. Probably it's because the character is so noticeable. While everyone else is wearing a suit, and trying to get as rich as possible, he dressed scruffy, is hiding away in his office (a supply cupboard with a few computers) eating chocolate, typing away on the computer and making a load of money for the firm. whether he makes any money for himself, I'm actually not sure. I assume he must though, because the 50lbs of chocolate he gets every week wouldn't exactly be any good for buying things.

I have fallen in love with the character. Head over heels in love. Which is bizarre, because until now I have found it impossible to find even the best looking man attractive when he has a beard. In this case, I actually quite like the beard. How strange. Anyway, Grant Jansky = excellent. The only complaint I would have with the series (other than the fact that David Hewlett isn't in every scene!) is that they are apparently not releasing the other series on DVD. Which means I have no chance of watching it. Which meant I am depressed. I've got myself hooked on it, and now my supply has been cut off. I'll have to just keep re-watching the 1st series, I suppose.
