The Dresden Files are awesome. It's a series by Jim Butcher, about a wizard private investigator. He uses magic to solve his cases, encounters vampires, werewolves, fairies, and just about every supernatural creature you can think of. (And I'm sure the author is a Lost Boys fan for various reasons, including his use of half vampires.)

I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a book series to become obsessed with. Avoid the TV show though, it was ok, but nowhere near as good.
