Happy!

I have had a great day today! It's weird, I got about way too little sleep last night, got up the instant the alarm went off and spent half the day tidying my room (which now actually looks like a room, as opposed to a rubbish tip). I am really tired, to the point where I fell asleep this afternoon, and I never sleep during the day, I haven't done anything especially great, I have had a totally average day. Even a slightly less good than average day, but I'm happy. What's with that?

I've got a few theories. First, it's all warm and sunny. I even saw someone outside in shorts earlier (but I don't think it's anywhere near that warm myself!) and for some reason sun makes you happy. There's probably some sort of scientific explanation for that, I think I’ll find out, but for now I'll just think it's because there's something great about going outside in jeans and a t-shirt and not being cold when last week you were shivering through your thickest coat. I so want to live somewhere with better weather!

Then, there's the fact that I had a good dream last night. I've probably got [livejournal.com profile] lil_banik_slave to thank for that, because she put the idea of having a dream about David Hewlett in my mind. So I did! Well, okay, so it was a dream about Grant Jansky, and for some reason we were running around Scarborough (no idea why there!) looking for something he'd lost. I didn't know what it was, and I didn't want to ask in case he decided I was useless and left, so... odd dream. But cool, in a way! :-D

And finally, I'd left the computer downloading another of [livejournal.com profile] perian's Traders episodes last night, so I knew I had that to watch, and when I did watch it, it was great! I just love eps where Grant is important to the plot in some way, instead of just being there while it's happening.

So, sun + good dream + new Traders ep = happy Catherine. I hope that all happens together again soon!

It probably didn't hurt that no one else was in all day, either.

I love Traders more every episode I see.

I wouldn't bother clicking here )

I am so tired I have no idea what I have just written! I should really stop watching episodes in the middle of the night and then writing about them when I know I'm not even going to make sense to myself. Sorry! Maybe I will make sense in the morning. Myabe I should watch an episode in the morning...

Okay, the light has gone back to normal. Shame really, it looked kinda nice. Now though, there's nothing interesting to look at out the window, and my sister is taking up the other room, where I was planning on going and watching Traders, so I'm stuck! Damnit! I've just put the latest ep on a disk and I wanted to watch it on the TV! I guess I'll have to wait till later.

Anyway, I was going to ramble on about Traders today, but since I've got another episode to watch, I'll wait while after. I did a bit more of my story last night though. The one set before the series. but now I'm stuck! I hate when that happens! Maybe I should leave it a bit and make a start on the other one I got an idea for. On the other hand, that idea might be best killed and forgotten about! And of the subject of fanfic, I should really finish those two Atlantis ones I haven't looked at for months!

And now it's nearly dark. I miss the orangeness!

If this post seems completely random, it's because I have nothing better to do and am just typing random stuff as I think of it!
prepare4trouble: (Default)
I've been very good. I only watched three of the Atlantis episodes on the DVD. Rising (1+2, but they're joined together) and Hide and Seek. And Hide and Seek I watched in German. Which was pretty bizarre, because Sheppard and Beckett's voices are just wrong. McKay, Weir, Teyla and Ford (though he didn't have many lines so I didn't really notice) all seemed to sound the same. Well, except that the were speaking German, obviously. But Sheppard and Beckett's voices seemed too deep. I guess if I hadn't heard it in English I wouldn't notice, but it really bugged me! Oh well, not like I was planning on doing a lot of watching it in German anyway!
I'd forgotten how good Rising was. Or maybe I never realised in the first place. I rarely enjoy first episodes because I don't know the characters yet. Anyway, either way, I enjoyed it this time! Not many extras on the disk though, unfortunately. But there is a ten minute behind the scenes type thing that is pretty hilarious!

Those watched, I then wrote [livejournal.com profile] perian's latest Traders ep onto a disk and watched that. (I said I'd do something constructive. That counts, right? Making a VCD?) A very DH light ep, but pretty cool anyway. I'm not going to ramble about it tonight though, because to be honest I was half asleep when I watched it, I'm half asleep now, and I doubt I'd make any sense! Tomorrow though, expect some rambling! (fair warning?)

One thing though. Jack moved in with Grant and Donald. Now, midway through the first season, I was seeing some slash potential between Jack and Donald, (like maybe in the ep Rumours?) but I ignored it because I was too busy watching Grant. I don't know for how long, but now we've got all three of them living together, I wonder if... No. Better not.

Atlantis DVD!

The post just came, and MY ATLANTIS DVD IS HERE!

Yeah, it comes out today, so it's not like it's that surprising, but I didn't think it would get here. I forgot to order it until Thursday, it shipped on Friday and for a few seconds I thought I would get it today, until I read the part of the e-mail that said 'allow 3-5 days for delivery.' Assuming you can't count Sunday, that only gave it two days. But yay! It's here. I've not seen Rising for ages. The others I saw more recently, but this is very cool. So much for doing stuff today, I'm going to have to watch Atlantis all day. Four eps of that, and hopefully by that time my Traders download from [livejournal.com profile] perian will be done, and I'll have to watch that too, of course.

But then I'm doing something more constructive.

I've been picking away at this story changing a few words here and there for the last few days, but I don't think it's really making any difference. This is as good at it's gonna get. So here it is. Tell me what you think. Even if you think it's awful.

CATEGORY: Traders. Romance(ish), Preslash
SPOILERS: Everything up to 'The Big Picture', really. But mostly just 'Sharper Than A Serpent's Tooth' and 'The Big Picture'

The woman at the agency said she would ring today if I got that telesales job. She didn't ring. So I guess I didn't get it. Damn damn damn! I could have so do it as well. Okay, it wouldn't have been my dream job, but I could have done it! Oh well.

It said on the news that the first episode of the new Dr Who series has been leaked onto the internet. I am very tempted to get it. You know, I wouldn't have thought the BBC would want to advertise that. But it was on their news. Hehehe. Well, I found it. Now, should I get it or should I wait a few weeks..?

Watched the Traders ep again. And I knew there would be something that I forgot to mention last night. What the smeg was that TV program they were watching?! It was like financial news or something, but the presenter, (who had glasses exactly like the guy off the Halifax adverts) was talking like it was some kind of gossip program or something, with the main people at Gardner Ross as celebrities. It was pretty funny. Do programs like that actually exist? Because I want to watch one if they do!

Went rollerblading today! A Traders-influenced decision. Well, that woman was blading in the park, and then Grant was on his rollerskates, and it made me jealous. So I mentioned it to my sister, and she was all enthusiastic, so we went and skated around for a bit. Not done it in years, it was fun!

Traders

Okay, i feel the need to ramble on about Traders. Again. I've just seen the first ep of series 3 (thank you [livejournal.com profile] perian!) and since I don't know anyone remotely interested in hearing me go on and on, here's the best place for it.

If you do want to read it... )

Okay, I've lost track of what I'm doing now. I'm exhausted and about to fall asleep, so I guess I'd best go to bed before I do. I will probably ramble more tomorrow about the things I forgot.

Oh, something I thought was pretty funny. I was looking at the Traders DVD on Amazon, and you know that thing they do where it says "Customers who bought this also bought..." two of the three things there are Nothing and Treed Murray! I guess all the David Hewlett fans have been buying everything he has ever been in. Cool. Maybe if they keep at it, enough Traders DVDs will be sold to justify them bringing out the second season. Probably not though, but you never know.
prepare4trouble: (Default)
...is hard! Especially when you don't really know what you're doing. I mean, I went over the Traders story I finished last night. It's okay, (and I suppose it wouldn't matter if it was completely awful, since I doubt anyone will read it!) but I'm a total perfectionist. Which is, I suppose, why I so rarely finish a story. I mean, I've got an Atlantis fic so close to finished but I can't get the last line quite right so I don't post it. It's a totally ridiculous situation.

But back to Traders. )

Sorry for rambling on!

Watching TV...

Tuesday, 1 March 2005 01:43
prepare4trouble: (Default)
Well, it seems that the maximum number of episodes of Due South I can watch in a day while my sister is in the house is 7. Pathetic. I've watched more than that during the evening when she's out. Well, next time I get the house to myself for a few days, I'm going to watch random TV all day. Well, no. I probably won't. Whenever I get the house to myself I usually spend all my time online...

So, watched the last ep of season 2 of Traders, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] perian! It was so good! Well, okay I was completely lost at first. But I had a vague idea or what was going on because I read the episode guide. I picked up the story fast enough though, but I'm sure there was plenty of stuff I didn't really understand. I'll be watching it a lot more times though, so hopefully I'll pick it all up eventually. There was the funniest thing though that Grant said. He was talking about a computer program that he hates. He says something about it being too easy, you just click the buttons, if you do something wrong it puts it right... It made me laugh though, because I was saying almost exactly the same thing the other day about those programs to help you build websites.

They just really annoy me. Frontpage and all those, I mean. I like to build my websites in html. Okay sometimes I get javascript code from other sites, but apart from that I do it myself. These pagebuilder sites, all you do is point and click, drag and drop, and there you've got a website that looks as good as one you built yourself. Only you didn't, you just planned it and suddenly it was made. This means that any eight year old who doesn't even know what html *is* can build a website that looks better than one of mine. Or at least as good as. And yeah, I know I'm not that good at it. All I've done it picked up a few basics off the internet and tried them out in different ways. And I've been told by my brother that I have no idea of style or what colours go with what (although that effect was actually what I was going for) but I have done it myself. When something goes wrong, I go through and check what I forgot, or what tag I didn't close or whatever, and fix it.
I have used these drag and drop programs. I used the one on Geocities back when I made my first site. And then I looked at the html and it was a complete mess! There was stuff all over the place that wasn't supposed to be there. It looked awful. And all the mess was making the pages load weirdly too. So I went through most of it and redid it myself. Which was a lot more fun than drag and drop anyway!

Sorry, totally didn't mean to rant!
I should go to bed...
prepare4trouble: (edgar)
Quit the job. I hated to do it, I feel like a complete wimp, but I just couldn't do it. Or rather I could, but my mum convinced me not to..!

A justification/explanation/whatever )

So, I'm now unemployed again. I'm going to have to ring the job centre and tell them about the days work, then I'm going to go find-a-job-mad and ring every agency in town, looking of office work. Which at least involves sitting down and using a computer most of the day. Now that I can do. No rules banning trousers either!

For now though, I'm celebrating my unemployment by watching TV. Four episodes of Due South so far, I'm going to see how many I can watch. And then there's the episode of Traders that [livejournal.com profile] perian so kindly uploaded (thankyouthankyou) that I'll be watching in a bit, so I'm going to have a total do nothing day. Then, I'm going to get a job.
prepare4trouble: (edgar)
So, I walk into the room last night where my mum is on the computer, and I say "My knee's swollen up," which it had, not much, but enough to be painful.
She doesn't turn around, she doesn't even stop typing and goes, "You're not getting out of that job," as if she thinks I'm lying or something. Am I being over sensitive, or was she being a complete git? Anyway, if I wanted to get out of the job, I'd just say I'm not doing it, and if I mad excuses to anyone, it wouldn't be her.

On a less angry note, I got a program to make animations, so now I can make moving avatars. I'm probably going to be playing with it for weeks now! Only made two so far though, both from Traders.

Fun! Unfortunately, they're too big to use on Livejournal, and when I make them smaller by using fewer frames, the affect is really crappy. Like this

Which I might end up using anyway, but I'm glad I can use the better ones on other sites.

Teachers

prepare4trouble: (Default)
I finally updated WeLoveTeachers. I can't believe it's been almost two months. I'm so lazy when it comes to that kind of stuff. And it went so well for the first year. Well, I suppose I sort of lost interest during the 4th series. I mean, no Navin Chowdhry! What other reason was there to watch it? For me, anyway. I'm going to overhaul the site though. Now there are no new eps, no new news etc I won't have to bother about new things and can concentrate on making screencaps and transcribing and stuff. And I've been meaning to give the site a new look for months now. But, like so much else, I didn't get around to it. I will now though. Even though I lost interest, everyone else didn't, and I feel I have a responsibility to the fans. People are still visiting the site. I get an average of 10 hits a day. Nothing compared to before, but maybe they'll come back if I update. I hate it when people abandon sites...

I didn't get around to rewatching Traders today. I didn't get around to doing anything, to be honest (except the site update just now) it's been one of those days. Tomorrow though. Tomorrow I'll update the site some more, watch (probably the last three) eps of Traders, do another of the French CDs, post the letter I keep forgetting...Yeah, you know what? I'm probably not going to do most of that!

I'm so lazy recently...

Obsessive?

Thursday, 17 February 2005 04:08
prepare4trouble: (Default)
I have watched 6 episodes of Due South today. Fun!

Tomorrow, I might have another Traders day. I need to get my head around the way some of the characters speak. My fic may be read only by myself, but I don't want it to suck too badly if I can help it.

Talking of Traders (and Due South) I noticed Patrick McKenna (Marty Stevens from Traders) in one of the DS eps. This pleased me immensely because even when it's someone fairly easy to recognise, it's always nice that I can do it occasionally!
Then, out of interest, I looked him up on the IMDb and found that he was in 2 eps of SG-1 (already knew that), two eps of Forever Knight, and one of BWoC. I can almost imagine him in BWoc, actually. Not seen that show in a few years, I might have to fish out my tapes.
Oh, by the way, this is NOT the start of another obsession. I just found it interesting that he's been in most of my recent favourite shows!
prepare4trouble: (Default)
I am officially obsessed with Traders. Yeah, I guess I have been for a while, but now I'm writing fanfic. Slash fanfic. Or at least, slashy. Whether or not it will become actual slash remains to be seen. I judge my level of obsession by what I do. Watching a program, needing to watch a program, going through withdrawal if I can't watch a program, writing fic...
I guess this'll be another of those stories that sits on my hard drive and never gets shown to anyone! :-D
prepare4trouble: (edgar)
Messing around in Photosuite last night, I realised it's not quite as rubbish as I thought. You can do a few things with it, and once you get the hang of it a bit, they look okay. And I figured out how to add text, so I don't need to keep saving and opening in Paint quite so often any more. So maybe I can have a bit of fun making stuff now. I still want my dad to get paintshop pro though, then I can nick it and install it on my computer (photosuite came with their computer, and doesn't have a disk to install it on another computer). But he won't, because it costs £100. Which is a ridiculous amount! Matthew said "You've got broadband, you don't need to pay for software." He says you can download it. Seems a bit real bad to me, but if they will ask for extortionate amounts...

There's no point considering it though, not while my mum is supreme god of the computer. I managed to get a few programs past her, but her spybot program will seek out and destroy Kazaa, and probably anything else I could use to dl. I don't think you can get it in the same way you get episodes.

Anyway, I was playing around in photosuite, and I made a desktop wallpaper. It goes in the middle of the screen, doesn't fill the whole thing. I was quite proud of it, so I made it our wallpaper. I got up the next morning, and Jennie had got rid of it. I asked why, and she said it was "Blury and rubbish". Charming. I had made it blury intentionally. I thought it made it look like a painting. So it seems my wallpaper was so bad, Jennie would rather have nothing at all than have to look at it. I put it back though. And I acted all hurt that she said that. Which wasn't hard, because I was.

Anyone have an opinion on it?

Testing...

Thursday, 10 February 2005 18:45
prepare4trouble: (Default)
Nope, nothing works. I'm sure on the other format I could adjust the amount of the screen the text takes up. So, lets see if posting a fairly big picture will stretch it.

Lets go for... Grant and Donald in a tree!

Why..?

Thursday, 10 February 2005 13:45

I feel really depressed today, and I have no idea why.

Anyway, I'm going to go do some French. I doubt that'll cheer me up, but maybe I'll watch Traders again later. That'll do it.

Traders

Monday, 7 February 2005 17:40
prepare4trouble: (Default)
Oh my god, Traders rules!!

I got the DVDs a few days ago. The series one box set. 13 episodes, 11 of which have David Hewlett in them. Now obviously I'm going to say I love it, it's got David Hewlett in it, so my judgement is kinda clouded. But I'm fairly sure I'm right that it rules. David Hewlett's character, Grant Jansky, is a fairly minor character compared to the rest, but he is probably the best one. I wasn't actually bored when I was watching the scenes without him, the other characters are all quite interesting too (just not David, you know?), but I was definitely waiting for his next scene.

There are eleven names on the credits as it comes on, David is the 9th. That kind of implies he would be in it a lot less than he actually is. For a supporting character, he sure acts like one of the stars. Probably it's because the character is so noticeable. While everyone else is wearing a suit, and trying to get as rich as possible, he dressed scruffy, is hiding away in his office (a supply cupboard with a few computers) eating chocolate, typing away on the computer and making a load of money for the firm. whether he makes any money for himself, I'm actually not sure. I assume he must though, because the 50lbs of chocolate he gets every week wouldn't exactly be any good for buying things.

I have fallen in love with the character. Head over heels in love. Which is bizarre, because until now I have found it impossible to find even the best looking man attractive when he has a beard. In this case, I actually quite like the beard. How strange. Anyway, Grant Jansky = excellent. The only complaint I would have with the series (other than the fact that David Hewlett isn't in every scene!) is that they are apparently not releasing the other series on DVD. Which means I have no chance of watching it. Which meant I am depressed. I've got myself hooked on it, and now my supply has been cut off. I'll have to just keep re-watching the 1st series, I suppose.
prepare4trouble: (Default)
Saturdays are really boring. Not that I do anything the rest of the week, but I can't do the same nothing on Saturdays or Sundays, or whenever else someone's around, because I get moaned at. Or questioned. Example, I want to do some more Traders screencaps, but if I do, my sister is going to come in and ask what I'm doing. I haven't told her, or anyone else, that I bought the DVDs because I'll get mocked for being obsessed. I'm tired of being mocked for my obsessions!
So I made a new icon, and for lack of anything better to do, I'm going to make more. Then maybe I'll go to my room and watch telly.

246 hours to the next Atlantis...
