I've spent the last two days enjoying the sunshine and making cookies! I got a bit burned on Monday, so I've been more careful, but I've been sitting around outside, reading a book and enjoying not being cold and miserable for a change.

My dad requested cookies, so I made some chocolate ones yesterday, but I left them in the oven a bit too long, they didn't burn, but they didn't stay nice and soft in the middle after they were cool. I made some cherry ones today and they did. So yay! And my sister says mine are her favourite type of cookies, which is cool.

I went out tonight with my friend Emma to a battle of the bands because she is friends with someone in one of the bands. They were really good. The other band were ok too though.

The weather report says it's going to rain tomorrow. I hope it doesn't, I want to sit in the sun some more, and the puddle of sewage in the tenfoot is almost gone, rain will make it expand again.

No rain yet, then

I'm going to start this post by mentioning that I drank five bottles of Stella tonight, and so any spelling errors and generally moronic comments are probably because of that.

Well, the torrential rain part 2 that was forecast for the weekend hasn't started yet, which is good because I really want to manage to get to London tomorrow. Missing my flight would kinda ruin the holiday. So I'm hoping it will hold off until the afternoon, because the train goes at 1.05 tomorrow.

I spent most of tonight packing, which it a ridiculously tiring activity, and I don't know why my case is coming so dangerously close to the 20kg limit, I don't remember packing that much stuff. But apart from a few things I need to add in the morning, I'm all done. Apparently my dad is pissed off about the state of my bedroom and is threatening to go up there and tidy it while I'm away, which is a little weird, a total invasion of privacy and slightly worrying. But it would save me a job I suppose. I'll try to sort it a little before I go tomorrow though.

The new job is still going well, although that might have something to do with the fact that I haven't done any actual work yet. I have a week of training once I get back, and the actual job starts 2 weeks on Monday. I don't think I'll have too many problems though, I'm starting to get a feel for what I'll be doing. It's a little strange to be working with someone who I knew at school, but in a good way, I think.

If all goes according to plan, I'll arrive in London tomorrow at 4ish, and be at Gatwick by 5ish to meet my friend. The flight doesn't leave til nearly 11, and sometime early Sunday morning, we'll arrive in Gran Caneria. Where the weather will hopefully be better than here!

I'm not sure if I'll get online in the morning, or whether I'll find an internet cafe there, so this might be my last entry for a week. Or it might not, depends on lots of things, but I'll try to get online while I'm away if I can.

Now I need to sleep before I nod off at the computer!

Day off...

Well, no work today. Apparently NPower is still flooded. The guy from the agency told me he'll let me know if I need to go in tomorrow. He also explained that he wasn't in the office yesterday because his house was flooded, and that his daughter spent the night trapped in Sheffield sleeping in the Hallam arena. So we definitely did get off lightly by the sounds of it.

The lake in the back garden has retreated, so we now have the half nearest to the house back, from what I can see out of the window it looks like the tenfoot river is starting to dry up too, there are bits of dry now, but it looks like it's mostly still the same. Assuming it doesn't rain again, everything here should be back to normal by tomorrow.

The paper says Hull got 97mm of rain yesterday, and that there is more to come at the end of the week.

I might go in town today since I'm not working and I couldn't go yesterday. I can't be bothered, I'd much rather sit around at home, but I do need some stuff for my holiday. Assuming, that is, that the forecast rain at the end of the week doesn't prevent me from getting there...

It's been a strange kind of day. Nothing really happened, I just sat around watching the water rise.

We've been really lucky though. A few doors down they spent most of the day emptying water from the garden in an effort to stop if getting in the house at the front. Out front garden was fine, is must slope their way. And my mum was talking to her cousin in Sheffield, they have no power, her husband can't get home tonight and they don't know how long it'll take to get to sorted.

I don't know if I'm having my first day at work tomorrow or not. I got a message on my phone today saying NPower closed at 2.30, and tomorrow morning I have to wait until the agency rings me before I set off, so they can let me know if they're even opening. I'm going to assume they are and get up ready. The rain has stopped now, anyway, and it doesn't look like it's about to start again. Which is good, because the garden flood is going down, and it did come dangerously close to getting in the house this afternoon.

Because I honestly do have nothing better to do, I have taken pictures of the garden and tenfoot.

And it's still raining...

Insane rain

I thought the rain that made me late for work the other week was bad, but this is just insane. The tenfoot is flooded, the water has knocked the bin over, which means the bin men wouldn't empty it, there is nearly four inches of water in the garage, so we've had to shut off the electricity out there, and the water is slowly creeping up the garden towards the house. The bottom of the garden has maybe three inches of water. Milly keeps going out there to paddle. Luckily, it shouldn't get in the house because there's a step up to get inside. Another hour or so and the whole garden's going to be flooded though.

It's quite exciting...
