Tuesday, 15 May 2007 17:22Plans for the day went slightly awry. I had wanted to chill out and watch the last two episodes of season 2 of Supernatural in preparation for the finale. I took the dog for a walk and when I got back my brother had shown up, which he does from time to time with no warning. So we drank loads of coffee and talked about cars, or more specifically what kind of car I should get now I've got my job back and can afford one (yay!). Still no idea. Something cheap would be best, I think.
Then he took me (and the dog) to a supermarket car park to try out some bay parking because I said I hate it. He's a bit of apsycho perfectionist, so we were there a while, and now he's cleaning his entire car, so it would be a bit rude for me to disappear upstairs to watch TV or write. So I guess I'll do it later or tomorrow morning before work. Or maybe just wait until the finale airs, then watch the entire season in one sitting!

Okay, so Dean sends Sam into this random diner for food, and waits in the car. Then the radio starts crapping out and he looks up and suddenly the diner looks empty. He goes inside, and everyone is dead, and Sam is gone.
Sam wakes up in some weird frontier ghost town, where he meets up the Andy (can make people do whatever he wants kid) and Ava (the girl with visions) and 2 other people, a girl who can kill people by touching them and a guy with super strength. Sam explains what he thinks is going on, everyone freaks out a bit, then they encounter a demon so they figure maybe he's right after all.
Sam works out where they are because he sees a bell that's from a town that was deserted because it was so haunted and figures they're there.
In the meantime, Dean has met up with Bobby, he gets a call from Ash who might know where Sam is, but won't say over the phone, so they have to go to the Roadhouse to meet him. When they get there, it's totally burnt down. there's no sign of Ellen, and Ash is dead.
Over in frontierland, Andy reckons he can send an image to Dean to let him know where they are, and over at what's left of the roadhouse, Dean has a Sam-esque vision of the bell, which he describes to Bobby, who knows where to go.
The YED appears to Sam in a dream and tells him that all the special children are in a competition to be the leader of his army, and they have to kill each other, last one standing wins. He says Sam's his favourite and shows him what happened in his room the night of the fire. YED is standing over baby Sam's crib and cuts himself and drips the blood in Sam's mouth. Sam (real sam) gets all freaked out and "Does this mean I have demon blood in me?!" They the watch his mom come in the room and she looks at the demon and says "You!" like she knows him. Then he kills her like we've seen 50000 times before, only the demon cuts the scene before that happens.
Sam wakes up, then Ava makes a demon kill Andy and cries about it like she doesn't know what happened. Sam works it out, and she fesses up that she's been there 5 months, every now and then a new batch of kids turn up, and she kills them. Apparently she's managed to develop her vision powers into demon controlling powers. She's about to kill Sam the same way, when super strong guy comes in and kills her.
Dean and Bobby drive as far as they can and then get out the car cus they have to continue on foot.
Super strong guy fesses up to Sam that he the demon told him what's going on too, and Sam’s all "We should team up and fight it," but the other guy would rather just kill Sam because he can't be sure he won't turn on him. So they have a fight, and somehow, Sam seems to be winning. He gets the guy on the floor and he's about to whack him with a bit of metal, but can't go through with it, so he leaves him unconscious and walks away.
Then Deans yelling to him to look out, and strong guy comes up behind Sam and stabs him in the back. Dean runs forward, but it's too late. Bobby chases strong guy off into the town, and despite Dean's assurances to Sam that he's going to be fine, he dies in his arms.
Now, isn't knowing that gonna make the wait for the episode all the more agonizing?

Okay, so the opening scene freaked me out a little because maybe it was just me but for a moment there, I thought Sam was alive. He’s laying on a mattress and for just a second I thought ‘he’s going to wake up’. He doesn’t though, and then we see Dean sanding near him, just staring with this blank, shell shocked expression on his face.
Bobby comes in and offers him food, but he refuses. Bobby tries to address the issue of burying Sam, but Dean’s not ready for that either. Bobby then suggests that it might be a good idea for Dean to go with him. He doesn’t think he should be alone and he could use the help because “Something big is going down. End of the world big.”
Dean looks up at him with a face full of pain and grief and shouts “Then let it in!” He thinks he’s given enough already. He orders Bobby out. Bobby reminds him he knows where he’ll be, and goes.
Over in the woods around the ghost town, Jake (super strong guy and murderer of Sam) is camping out. The demon turns up to congratulate him on winning. Jake isn’t too impressed, he tells the demon he’s going to kill him, and the demon threatens his family to keep him in check.
Back in the motel Dean is reminiscing with Sam’s corpse about when they were kids, how Dean has always been the one who protects Sam, “I job, and I screwed it up,” he cries, before getting in the car and driving away. He goes to a crossroads where he summons the demon from Crossroad Blues and asks her to bring Sam back in exchange for his soul. He wants 10 years, like the other people got. She says no, not 10 years. He tries 9. No. 8? No. 5? Again, no. She walks away and Dean calls her back to ask what her terms are. One year, she says. He agrees (the fool!) and they kiss. Back in the motel Sam wakes up.
When Dean gets back, he tells am he was badly injured when he was stabbed, but Bobby patched him up. Sam says they have to find Jake, and that he’s going to kill him. Dean tries to get Sam to rest and recover for a bit, but he insists on going to see Bobby, who is understandably shocked when Sam turns up on his doorstep.
Bobby has found signs of demonic activity in Wyoming, except for one spot where there is nothing but he doesn’t know why. He asks Sam to have a look at it, while he and Dean do something else. As soon as they are outside, he pounces on Dean with accusations, knowing what he has done, and asks how long he has. Bobby is furious. Dean begs him not to tell Sam.
Ellen turns up, she had popped out of the Roadhouse when there was the fire, so she survived. Apparently, Ash had called her when it happened and told her to look in the safe, which she had, and had found some maps of Wyoming. The are five Xs on it, which apparently represent churches, and Samuel Colt (of gun fame) had built railways connecting them, which made one giant devil’s trap. That’s why the area is free of demonic activity, they can’t get in.
Dean suggests that maybe it was built to keep something in. Sam says the demon will use Jake to cross it and get to whatever is inside.
Cut to Jake, the demon tells him to go to the graveyard inside and open a crypt. Jake doesn’t want to, but the Demon convinces him. He gives him the Colt, which apparently also acts as some kind of key. Jake threatens to shoot the demon is persuaded to go.
He goes to the graveyard, but Dean, Sam, Bobby and Ellen are waiting for him and ambush him there. Jake is more than a little shocked to see Sam alive and insists he was definitely dead.

Re: As requested, season finale spoilers
2007-05-19 23:58 (UTC)They are too late though, and the crypt opens, with hundreds of demons flooding out. Bobby says it is the gate to hell. The devil’s trap breaks and they are free.
With the devil’s trap broke, the YED can get inside, and suddenly he’s there. Ellen and Bobby work on shutting the gate while Dean goes for the gun and tries to shoot the demon. Demon had Sam and Dean both pinned in place unable to move, and taunts Dean, asking if he’s sure that what he brought back was 100% Sam. He did seem pretty cold there when he Jake. He’s got a point, I wondered the same thing myself. Then he throws Dean’s line from Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things in his face, “You of all people should know what’s dead should stay dead,” He is about to shoot Dean, when suddenly the ghost of John Winchester turns up and grabs the demon out of the body he is possessing. He isn’t strong enough to keep him out for long, but it is long enough for Dean to get free, and grab the gun. Once the demon is back in the body, Dean shoots him with the Colt and he dies.
John shares a moment with his sons, he smiles approvingly then disappears upwards.
Dean and Sam stand over the dead demon and Dean says “Check that off the to do list,” which wasn’t really that funny, but after everything that had happened, triggered something and I had to pause it while I laughed for five minutes! Sam can’t believe he’s finally dead, and can’t think of anything to say. Dean can. “That was for our mom. You son of a bitch.”
Back at the car, Sam insists on talking about the fact that Jake said he was dead. Dean flat out denies that he made a deal, but Sam knows he’s lying, so Dean tells him how long he’s got. Sam says he shouldn’t have done that, but Dean says he had to, it’s his job to look after him. Sam says it’s his job too look after Dean too, and that he doesn’t care what it takes, he’s going to get him out if it.
So now there’s an army of demons roaming the earth, minus the leader they were supposed to have since Jake is dead. Bobby says the battle has only just begun,
Dean looks enthusiastic, “We got work to do,”
And then it’s done. Until season 3, at least.
