Friday, 18 May 2007 23:24So I got up early this morning and set the Supernatural season finale downloading, then I resisted the urge to read spoilers or anything that might contain spoilers all morning, went off to work leaving the download going and was completely unable to concentrate on the story I was writing (yeah, I know work is for working not writing fanfic, but what the hell) and got a taxi home so I would see it that little bit sooner. Then I get back, try to watch it, and it's something else. I don't know what, some other show! And it won't even play in VLC, so it made me download some other program to watch it, which didn't have a picture for some reason and it's some other show! So now I'm downloading it again, and it's going really really slowly. And this sucks so much.

2007-05-20 14:10 (UTC)Okay, quick guide. Best way to do it I think is to use torrents. There are plenty of lj communities where people upload eps though, but they are often well hidden and require you to be invited though, and I don't know any for Supernatural. So, torrents.
In order to download using torrents, you'll need a program. I recommend Bitlord, simply because that's what I use and I know it works. Download and install it, should only take a couple of minutes. Then you need to find a torrent.
Torrents are little files that you download and then open with your downloader program, they then connect you to all the other people who have a complete copy of the episode (seeders) and people in the process of downloading it (leeches).
Go to Isohunt and use the search box to find what you want. If you're after a specific episode, your best bet is to search for that, rather than just typing "supernatural". So, the episode that's on tonight is season 2 episode 16. If you want that, for example search "supernatural s02e16". Click on one of the things that comes up. Go for one with a lot of seeders (it tells you how many in the column marked S) Click on the one you want, and it will open a drop down, then click "download torrent"
Bitlord will have a folder for storing torrents in it, so you can put it there, or anywhere you like. Once it's downloaded, open it with bitlord and the download will begin. Once it's started, you can pause or stop it or turn off you computer at any time, then just restart it by opening bitlord and clicking start. Which is useful. An episode can take a couple of hours to download.
Once it's finished, you'll find the file in c://program files/bitlord/downloads
Depending on what version of media player you have, you might be able to watch them in that. If it won't work and tells you you need loads of codecs and stuff, download VLC and watch it on that instead, it's better than media player anyway.
Sorry if this sounds really complicated, but it's totally not, I'm just rubbish at explaining things!
Enjoy!
