Gah!!!

Does anyone else have this problem? I'm completely okay, able to hold a decent conversation, act like, well, a normal person, etc etc when I'm online. But then put me in a real life, face to face, talking to someone type situation and I turn into Grant Jansky. (Not literally, of course) It's very annoying.

Sometimes, I really hate me!

Don't worry, you're certainly not the only one! I totally suck at actual conversation -- I either babble about the wierdest things, or freeze up and can't think of anything at all to say. I think my biggest problem is that I really need to think about what I want to say, so often the conversation has moved on by the time I come up with something. So either I drag the conversation off on this tangent, or just don't say it at all. People who don't know me well usually think I'm either a freak or stuck-up (which I *definitely* am not!)

That's what I like so much about LJ, I feel safer discussing some things on an online forum where no one can see my face then I do in the RL sometimes, especially fandom related subjects which make some people go all "You what?". *LOL*

I find that I get nervous when talking to new people, especially peers, and unfortunately when I am nervous my brain looses all contact with my mouth and I go a mile a minute without much thought...which gets very amusing. For some reason I'm better around older people *shrugs* then I am people my own age *shrugs*. Once I get to know them however I feel more confident.

That sounds almost exactly like me. Especially about having to think about what to say. If I don't, I ramble on about whatever obsessions I have at the moment, and since no one has heard of most of them...well, I get some odd looks!

Not sure whether to be happy it's not just me, or be sad that other people have the same problem!

Mmm, that didn't sound quite right did it. What I meant to say is it's a normal thing, yer it can be annoying, but I don't think you should hate yourself for it, it's not like it's your fault.

I'm afraid I'm not very good at the pep talk thing.

I wasn't really looking for a pep talk anyway, can't do that myself, so I'd never go expecting one!
